BrightEdge has reported that 57% of all search traffic now comes from mobile devices. Smartphones and tablets made up an even larger share of searches in particular categories, with far more people searching for restaurants on mobile than on desktop, for example. Age was also found to make a big difference, with younger people favouring mobile compared to older people. The research also found that 8 in every 10 search terms gave different rankings and results on mobile compared to desktop. These differences were attributed to mobile searches considering location and proximity when providing results.
