Facebook has faced more international legal action, after the French privacy watchdog fined the company 150,000 Euros. The ruling was made after the social media platform was judged to have created a “massive compilation of personal data of internet users in order to display targeted advertising”, something which the French watchdog went against privacy laws. It was also noted that Facebook has gathered data of “browsing activity of internet users on third-party websites” without permission. Facebook argued against the ruling, saying that it “respectfully disagreed” with the decision, adding that user privacy was “at the heart” of everything it did. Meanwhile, similar investigations are taking place in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Spain, based on the violation of user privacy laws.
